Acarbose, oligosakarida kompleks yang diasingkan daripada Actinoplanes, dilaporkan berguna sebagai terapi pembantu dalam diabetes.Dengan menghalang alpha-glucosidase, acarbose melambatkan metabolisme karbohidrat dalam saluran gastrousus dan memodulasi perubahan dalam paras gula darah yang disebabkan oleh makanan.
Acarbose ialah pseudo-oligosakarida dengan terminal C7-cyclitol yang dipatenkan pada tahun 1975 oleh Bayer.Acarbose ialah komponen kompleks amilostatin yang dihasilkan oleh spesies Actinoplanes dan Streptomyces.Acarbose bertindak sebagai perencat kuat α-glukosidase dan sakarase.Sejak tahun 1990, acarbose telah digunakan secara terapeutik untuk rawatan diabetes jenis 2.
